Anthem for Doomed Youth

This poem seems to be focused on what everybody prays against, the loss of the soldiers. I think the first line of each stanza makes that statement more clear. For example, "No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells," is saying that nothing can help them now, as they are passed, and it is too late to change what has already happened.
